Normally, I try to post the previous days activities while I'm on vacation. Unfortunately, this trip proved to be the exception. I've switched to a Nexus 7 tablet. I really like it. It's lighter than my old 1st generation iPad. The screen resolution is great. It works really well for the most part.
The only downside is the app for integrating with blogspot blogs is terrible. It is designed for people to take a single picture with the phone and post it to their blog with a comment. Normally, I would just let it go, but this is a large shortcoming by Google if they want to be in the tablet business. The process I had to go through to create posts was onerous. I would type the text into the Blogger app. Then, I would load the pictures that I wanted to use to my Picasa gallery. Next, I would log into my blogspot blog through the Chrome browser on my tablet to try to place the pictures into the blog.
All this sounds somewhat straight forward, however, sometimes I would HTML when I tried to edit my blog, sometimes it was formatted text. I was trying to manipulate the pictures with the little tiny links you get on a tablet browser, and when I made the picture bigger it wouldn't scroll.
Normally a blog post takes me 45 minutes from first starting to type, to publishing the post. This vacation, it was taking two hours and I had to have a good WiFi connection the entire time or it wouldn't work properly. You can't get solid WiFi connections in hotels with stone walls.
You could say it was software designed by a third party that just doesn't have the resources to fully develop high level software. Let's look at who the developer was for all the pieces in this process.
Nexus 7 - Manufactured by Asus, operating system Android 4.2
Android 4.2 - Google
Blogspot website - Google
Picasa - Google
Blogger app - Google
Chrome browser - Google
Yep, it's all Google. It's looks like the guys from Redmond finally have some competition.
